Redesign of sober's online shop with a focus on storytelling

After conducting a shop analysis and identifying unused potential, the D2C brand sober, together with tante-e, carried out a shop relaunch with an individual design, tailored to the brand and target group.

As a D2C brand, sober was able to translate its findings from the in-depth shop analysis into concrete actions and a tailored design and showcase its product even better.

  • The initial situation

    The Berlin-based direct-to-consumer brand sober has been producing high-quality care and cosmetic products for men since 2017. The company places great emphasis on proprietary recipes and formulas and manufacturing in Germany. In addition to being sold through its own online shop, sober's award-winning products are also available from renowned distribution partners such as Douglas, Flaconi, OTTO, and Zalando.

  • The challenge

    Despite the brand's success, the company was dissatisfied with its existing online store. It didn't meet the brand's visual standards, restricted the team's ability to implement their own ideas, and offered limited space for presenting the brand and its content. The store didn't adequately reflect the high quality of the products and lacked e-commerce best practices and trust-building elements.

    To address these challenges, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the user experience (UX) and store performance. Our Store Health Check enabled us to identify hidden potential and opportunities for conversion rate optimization. Based on this, we developed a modern, clean design that met sober's requirements.

Trust-building elements

We integrated various elements to increase trust, such as icons of press articles, social proof and user-generated content, as well as icons for the brand's unique selling propositions (USPs).

Informative product page

The product page was deliberately extended to provide comprehensive information about the product and its benefits. Through different sections, we were able to present the product, its manufacturing process, its benefits, and its ingredients in detail and elegantly.

Additional brand pages

To create a brand world beyond the products and to score points with the brand's personality, we have added additional pages about the brand and its value proposition.

The results

The redesign of sober's online store brought significant improvements. Even before deploying Shopify OS 2.0, the new design demonstrated what's possible with Shopify if you're willing to invest the time and budget. The product pages were redesigned into comprehensive and powerful product landing pages, offering ample space to showcase the products, their benefits, and their stories. The foundation laid by the relaunch is still being used years later, supporting the brand's successful online sales.

Lessons Learned

We learned some important lessons from the project: It's essential to analyze and understand what's already working well and where untapped potential lies before a relaunch to maximize the relaunch's potential. A customized design aligned with the strengths of your products and brand enables optimal product presentation and a consistent brand identity in the store.
