1. What is a favicon?
Everyone knows and sees them when surfing the internet, but hardly anyone knows what they're called: favicons. Favicons stands for "favorite icons" and refers to the small icons (16x16 or 32x32 pixels) that browsers use to mark a website. They appear on the left side of web browser tabs, in the bookmarks bar, or in other web-related areas.
Favicons may be small, but they have a big impact: First, they enhance the online user experience. Customers can quickly identify your Shopify store and distinguish it from other open tabs in their browser. They also provide an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your brand or logo and thus remain memorable.
2. Add a favicon to Shopify - In 3 steps:
Favicons often require a lot of programming. However, with Shopify, things are different. Once you have your brand's logo, you can get started in just a few steps:
-
Navigate to the Themes section. In your Shopify admin, go to Sales Channels -> Online Store -> Themes and customize your current theme.
-
Go to the theme settings. Depending on your theme version, there are two different options:
-
Scroll to the Favicon section.
-
Select the Logo section and scroll down to the Favicon Image option.
-
-
Upload your favicon. You can also upload an existing image from your Shopify media library. Shopify will automatically resize your selected file to the appropriate size. If you click "Edit," you can also add alt text for SEO and accessibility. Then save your favicon.
