Berlin Shopify Meetup #11 - Date: June 5, 2019 - Location: Deutsche Post Besucherzentrum
Despite the heat of 33 degrees outside (and probably even more inside), we were happy to welcome around 90 Shopify merchants, partners and soon to be merchants at our Shopify Meetup that has been taking place now for the 11th time since its start in 2017.
While at the last Shopify Meetups we always had merchants as guests speaking, we slightly changed the format this time: We had our guests speak about specific challenges they encountered and share with us their approach on how to solve it and what tools and techniques they used. This way we hoped to create more insights and take-aways for everybody. And the feedback we received seems that we are on the right track.
Kati from Ooshi shared with us how her co-founder and her use Shopify in order to handle rapid growth and the high increase in demand and with it the need of pre-order and split orders. In particular, she presented three Shopify apps that have helped them along the way: Metafields Master App, "Return Magic" for returns and exchanges and "Discounted Pricing" for volume discounts.
Matthias from Generation Yes showed us how they use Augmented Reality on Shopify through 3D Modeling and the self created PottAR app to mix reality with the digital world in order to highlight their video content even more. Save the date & join the group!
What are the bad things about a meetup? It is only taking place in one city attracting merchants from that city. It is also only 2h, very short and gives limited space for networking and knowledge exchange.
Therefore on August 22, 2019 for the first time, a DACH-wide Shopify conference for Shopify merchants will take place. In Berlin. 500 merchants. 1 day. Inspiration. Talks. Meeting experts. Workshops. Afterparty.
The mit2019 - merchant. inspiration. talks.
The 1-day conference for Shopify merchants in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Berlin Shopify Meetup #10 - Date: March 12, 2019 - Location: Deutsche Post Besucherzentrum
The record was kept: This time we could start the new year where we left off the last year. In a new location in order to better fit all the guests, we hold this time's meetup at the offices of Deutsche Post. And with over 80 visitors we kept the high participant number from the last time.
Welcome to the Community: This time the meetup had to run without the official presence of Hagen and his team from Shopify. As they were in Munich preparing for the big conference, Shopify expert Adrian from Tante-E.com hosted the event this time on his own but with the great support of Deutsche Post.
Updates from Applab24: While at the last meetup the guys from Applab24 presented their current status quo of the app, this time they came back to present the most recent results from their testing round. Among the testers were well known shops in the Berlin communtiy, such as The Barn, Stay Cold Apparel or Consider Cologne. And the results were above average, beyond the expectations of many. They received a big applause and many curious and interested test users.
A big thanks goes this time to our speakers, Vuven from Stay Cold Apparel and Tung & Anica from Deutsche Post.
This time we tested a new format. Instead of having a one-person presentation, we conducted an interview live on stage with Vuven from Stay Cold Apparel. He presented the Berlin-based streetwear brand and their philosophy. With the help of videos he gave more insights into their marketing strategy and their recipe to grow their customer base over the span of the last years so drastically.
Tung & Anica helped the audience think more intensively about a topic that usually is not that much thought of: Offline marketing via mailings and post cards. They showed possibilities to merge offline and online together and presented opportunities also for smaller Shopify shops on how they could use their proven success for their Shopify shop.
Also this time the networking and long talks continued until late hours. Even though the photo doesn't seem like it, the room was crowded until almost the very end. And also this time Deutsche Post encouraged the networking with a wide variety of cold drinks as well as amazing sandwiches and finger food.
Our next meetups will take place in May 2019. You can always find the most recent updates about our Shopify Meetups Berlin here.
Until then join our Facebook group where we keep in touch and give updates. I will update you once the tickets go live.
Excited to seeing you at future meetups!

Berlin Shopify Meetup #09 - Date: December, 4 2018 - Location: Newsletter2Go Office
A new record was set: With over 120 signups for the meetup and even 50 more on the waiting list, this meetup exceeded our expectations and set a new record in terms of number of participants. Despite the cold and also the busy Christmas seasons more participants than ever made their way to our meetup. We feel really glad and proud. Thanks!
Welcome to the Community: A big welcome from Hagen, the German partnership manager from Shopify Germany and Adrian, Shopify expert from Tante-E.com and also host of the Berlin Meetups. We are proud to have such a growing community and encouraged everybody to raise their questions if they had some to see together how to solve them.
A Shopify app from the community for the community: Applab24, Berlin developers who joined together with Shopify Expert Adrian, started on developing a new upsell app that is legally compliant with EU regulations. They presented their progress and invited the Berlin Meetup members to join their beta.
A big thanks goes this time to our speakers, Mauricio from Urbanara and Mara from Newsletter2Go.
Mauricio took us on their road in the past of migrating from the shop platform Prestashop over to Shopify Plus. He shared their experiences along the way, their biggest challenges and how they overcame them. One of the major tools he recommended was the page builder app Shogun.
Urbanara is a Shopify Plus store with a 7-digit+ revenue, television and billboard advertisements and even an own retail store. They are one of the leading German Shopify Shops and are also part of our Berlin Shopify Community.
Mara is a true expert on Email Marketing and continuously holds speeches and shares her advice with her audience, this time with our Shopify Berlin Community. From how to increase delivery likelihood of emails over how to improve opening rates, click rates until the overall conversion rate of email marketing campaigns, she shared a lot of examples and valuable advice.
This time we had some really interesting deep dives into a variety of topics. And this despite the very cozy atmosphere and seating situation as well as heat in the room. Therefore everybody was enjoying even more the fresh drinks and food afterwards. It was the first time outside of our previous location at WeWork and we could not have loved it more: The networking continued until late that night.
Our next meetups will take place in March 2019. You can always find the most recent updates about our Shopify Meetups Berlin here.
Until then join our Facebook group where we keep in touch and give updates. I will update you once the tickets go live.
Excited to seeing you at future meetups!

Berlin Shopify Meetup #07 - Date: September 2018 - Location: WeWork Sony Center
Our MVP of having a meetup in German language: In order to see if we can reach more interested people in the Shopify Community, we tried out something new this time - having a meetup for the first time in German language. The feedback we have received so far, both in the facebook group as well as during the event, indicates that the setup we had so far (English language) is quite ideal :)
A new website for our Shopify Meetup Berlin: In order to have only one go to point when looking up dates, speakers and past events, we have now our very own Shopify Meetup Berlin page: Click here to see more
A big thanks goes this time to our two speakers, Florian from The Barn Coffee Roasters and Juliane from StudioTR.
Florian presented The Barn and gave some insights into the actions they took in order to grow their coffee subscribers and their customer base overall. The Barn is a Berlin based coffee company running three stationary coffee places besides their online-store.
Juliane shared in her talk the experience and challenges of starting an online-shop focussed on a transparent value chain and sustainable products. StudioTR is a Berlin based online-store offering products that add value to both, producers and customers.
It was the first time we only had two merchants as speakers sharing their story, giving insights into their business setup and building the basis for some fruitful conversations and interaction. And I think I am not exaggerating if I say it was the most interactive meetup we have seen so far. Way to go!
Our next meetups will take place in October and November. You can always find the most recent updates about our Shopify Meetups Berlin here.
Until then join our Facebook group where we keep in touch and give updates. I will update you once the tickets go live.
Excited to seeing you at future meetups!

Berlin Shopify Meetup #06 - Date: July 2018 - Location: WeWork Sony Center
Hi,
Thank you all who made it this time to our Berlin Shopify Meetup. It is great to see so many familiar and new faces - the Shopify Berlin community is growing!
For those who took part this time, please take a minute to let me know how you liked it and what you would be interested to hear more about in the future.
Emma says goodbye: Emma who has started the Shopify Berlin meetups since the very beginning will step down and says Lebewohl, for now. Thank you so much for all the work and effort you have put in!
Adrian takes over: Co-hosting at this meetup #06, I am really excited and honored to take over from now on. I am a Shopify merchant myself (while running an agency at the same time) and a big fan of meetups and the Shopify community as a whole.
Germany has now a partnership manager: Hagen Meischner joined Shopify some months ago, works from the Oberlo office near Görlitzer Park, and will take care to adapt the Shopify platform to the German merchants’ needs. We are happy to have you and hopefully see you regularly at the next meetups, Hagen!
Big visit from Shopify’s headquarter: At this meetup also Leia, researcher at Shopify, and Ferry, the German Shopify Product manager, from Shopify’s headquarter in Canada visited us as they were currently on research tour meeting German Shopify merchants.
A big thanks goes this time to our three speakers, Ivan Bremers from Händlerbund, Glynn Ryland from ShaktiMat and Paul Blezinger from Talmo.
Ivan gave us a quick deep dive into the beloved topic of the past weeks, GDPR. Free guides and further info for merchants on GDPR you can access here (they also offer a special offer for all Shopify Berlin merchants, getting the first three months for free with the code “P2010#2018”).
Glynn and Paul took us on a journey of the Shopify Buddy Program that launched in Berlin last December. If you should be interested in participating in the program let me know and I connect you with Glynn.
Our next meetup take place on Wednesday, August 29. Until then join our Facebook group where we keep in touch and give updates. I will update you once the tickets go live.
Excited to seeing you at future meetups!

Berlin Shopify Meetup #05 - Date: February 2018 - Location: WeWork Sony Center
Hi,
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who braved the freezing cold temperatures to join us at WeWork on Tuesday! It was great to see so many new faces along with our regular attendees, and we look forward to seeing our community grow even further in 2018.
Below you'll find the recap of Tuesday's meetup; read on for a summary of key announcements and links to all presentations.
Our first announcement is specifically for merchants and store owners: we need your feedback! We're starting to plan the next few meetups which will take us to the end of 2018, and we want to make sure they're as informative and helpful as possible.
So, if you have a topic or specific question you'd like addressed, please just hit "reply" to this email and let us know about it! We'll do our best to make sure it gets covered this year.
Our other announcement on Tuesday was to wave a fond farewell to Nick Kelly, who is stepping down as one of your Shopify meetup cohosts. Thanks again for all your hard work Nick!
Our special thanks to both Michael Arndt from Nosto, and Felix Belau from Chatchamp, both of whom delivered highly informative talks on the night.
Michael took us through an overview of how merchants can use Facebook, Instagram, and user-generated content to increase their revenue; while Felix showed us how to get started with Facebook Messenger Marketing. You can find the link to both presentations here.
Felix also offered the community a 30-day free trial of Chatchamp; a Shopify app to help you boost your Facebook Messenger Marketing – interested merchants should contact him directly at felix.belau@chatchamp.io.
Our next meetup won't be until May/June 2018 (exact date TBC) but in the meantime you can also connect with us by joining our Facebook group, visiting our webpage to sign up for our newsletter, or by using the hashtag #BerlinShopifyMeetup on Twitter.
Looking forward to seeing you at a future meetup!

Berlin Shopify Meetup #04 - Date: November 2017 - Location: WeWork Sony Center
Hi,
Happy Black Friday for all you merchants, and a huge thank you to everyone who joined us at WeWork on Tuesday for our final meetup of the year!
It's always good to wrap up on a high note and thanks to our great speakers, and generous support from our hosts at WeWork, we were able to do just that! Read on for a summary of key announcements and links to all presentations.
We kicked off the evening with some exciting updates from our ever-growing Shopify community here in Berlin. Glynn Ryland from Shaktimat kicked off the evening by announcing the launch of the Berlin Buddy Programme, aimed at helping merchants create a support network and grow their business together. You can read all the details and apply here if interested.
We also heard about the launch of Talmo, a new store selling beautifully designed Apple accessories – all feedback is welcome! And Looga were kind enough to share a voucher code for anyone interested in trying out their app in your own store: just enter NEWBESTCUSTOMERS to receive three months free usage.
We also shared the news of a special Shopify Partners-only meetup taking place next Wednesday, as well as a call for local Shopify merchants to be featured on the new German Shopify blog (if interested, please contact shauna.moran@shopify.com).
Our special thanks to both Sebastian Misch from Nerds of all Trades, and Alexander Leichter from Byrd, both of whom delivered extremely interesting talks on the night. Alex took us through some of his top recommended apps for store owners (links to follow soon); while Sebastian discussed some of the common pitfalls for startup businesses.
(He also illustrated some of his points by really getting into the holiday spirit and offering a fun, on the spot, surprise giveaway, in collaboration with Uhrwerk.Berlin – so along with the usual collection of business cards and new connections, three lucky community members got to take home a new watch as well!)
Our next meetup won't be until January/February 2018 (exact date TBC) but in the meantime feel free to get in touch with us at shopifyberlin@gmail.com if you've a topic of your own you'd like to present to the community, or have a quick announcement you'd like to share.
You can also connect with us by joining our Facebook or Meetup groups, or by using the hashtag #BerlinShopifyMeetup on Twitter.
Wishing you all a very happy holiday season, and looking forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Berlin Shopify Meetup #02 - Date: May 2017 - Location: WeWork Sony Center
Hi everyone,
A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the fabulous WeWork offices in Potsdamer Platz on Tuesday – where we enjoyed some great views of Berlin, free beers on tap, and of course some excellent and informative talks about Shopify!
Ferry Hötzel kicked off the evening with an extremely insightful presentation about German legal issues for Shopify merchants. Patrick Rosenblatt from Eshop guide followed that up with a helpful discussion of shipping options for store owners.
We had several requests to view the slides afterwards, so we're happy to announce that both speakers have kindly made their presentations freely available online. You'll find Ferry's here and Patrick's here.
In other news, we're already starting to plan our next Meetup and are looking for app developers with helpful Shopify solutions to join a "speed pitch" evening for merchants and store designers. We have some developers lined up already but if you'd be interested in participating please just get in touch!
All the best,
Emma & Nick – Your Shopify Meetup Organisers
